I was not aware the the Spitfire Fastback was ever made, this looks like it came that way. I've seen a TR4GT Dove but never a Spitfire GT? This car is for sale on eBay. https://www.sonnytran.com/triumph/index.html

Either this car is a one of a kind prototype or someone hand built it to look this way. Does appear to be a very good job of modifying it. I could be wrong, but I do not believe that Triumph ever made a fastback verion of the Spitfire except in the GT6 model and this is diffenetly not a GT6. It would be interesting to get the history behind this car. Good Luck and let us know what you discover about this car.

As far as I know, the only fastback Spitfires built by Triumph were the Le Mans cars. There were, however private shops that the sold fiberglass fastback tops. There was a short article about that in our club newletter. I can' remember the issue, but I'll look for it. T.T.

I think this is an aftermarket hardtop.
I seem to remember seeing something about these types of tops somewhere.

I think if you look at all the photos closely you'll see gaps along the sides and across the top of the windshield that show this to be a fitted top.

One of the ebay (Item number: 4624852980) viewer's comments was: "What you have there appears to be a Lenham top conversion, I expect it to be very rare in the US."

Oddly enough the car has a late Mk III dash, but has twin carbs.

[/ QUOTE ]Nothing odd about that! It's a 1969, last year in the US for the dual SUs, but first year for the "Federal" dash style later adopted on all Spitfires beginning with the MkIV model for 1971.

As for the hardtop, it could be a Lenham but might more likely be an APAL or ASHLEY. See <https://amicale.com/spitfire/hardtop1.htm>, part of the wonderful site of Amicale Spitfire, the French-based Spitfire Club.

Nice job Andrew, your right it's either the APAL or ASHLEY.
Mystery solved.

When I was a Datsun Roadster afficianado, I came across one of those with very similiar treatment... wasn't too successful then, either.

High class license plate frame. While I may agree with the sentiment its not something I would broadcast in public..:p Goes with the pin stripe and the diamond pattern seat cover, I guess.
