$202.50, $30.00 in gas, and 6hrs of driving netted me this; ebay Item number: 170295665487 I couldn't get the URL to work right, so you'll hafta search the #. It's an early '63 and I believe the original color was black. If so, then somebody did a lot of work to change it. The door tag is missing. The only rust is in the rockers, and much to my suprise, the floor is solid! The down side, no motor and it was tapped in the rear valance. I have a motor that will work but any ideas on the rear sheet metal?(I have started my search yet)What do you guy's think?

Parts should be easy to come by - SpitBits is a Cali based specialist that has been good to deal with in my experience.

Congrats!

I think you done good! Not to worry about that tag; there is none on that early a Spitfire. Looks to me as if the commission number plate is there on the LH side of the scuttle, so you're set there.

Nice buy!

Looks like a lot of work, but the early Soits were the coolest ones. At least for this old guy anyway. I remember sitting in a Mk II at
the dealer in Grand Junction around 64 or 65. Dreamed of owning it, but that's as far as I got. Congrats and Good Luck.

Hehe, that's where this car originally came from. The guy I bought from said he picked it up about 20 years ago. The previous owner had removed the motor for whatever reason. He was going to put it back together but before he could his then girlfriend threw him out and kept the motor. He said he's been dragging it around with him ever since... I can honestly say this car is a far better starting point then the Junkpile Spit project. And now for more bad, the guy told me where I can pick up a pair GT6's for a song and dance! OH yeah, SpitBits has the rear valance for $190. Not too bad of a deal IMHO.

Wow, $200. That is a great bargain for what looks like a solid little car. Interesing that the eBay listing doesn't show a picture of the rear of the car!
It will make a fantastic car and certainly looks like a good basis for a rebuild.

Sounds like a deal to me. I'd like to have one just like that to follow me home.

Good luck, keep us posted on your resto!

Sometimes I'm glad I live in the rust-belt... since finds like this are always too far to be practical enough for me to consider... since I don't have the room anyway...

I bought a rear valance from TRF years ago. It was pretty cheap at the time. It was a repro part and the quality was not good. I didn't realize it until well after it was welded in though. It killed my desire to finish the car until my daughter kicked my butt and got me going again.
Check the fit before you weld!

What's that writer in Classic Motorsports say? "Well bought." I bought a rear valance from Spitbits- seemed like a good price at the time. The valance had no tail light holes- sweated getting things even. Impressive too, is that the bonnet seems to be uncrunched. And the space between bonnet and body tub looks pretty straight, too.

Which engince do you plan to put in the car?

T.T.

It's the only Spit I've owned that doesn't have issues with the bonnet! I have a 1147 in a '64 Herald or a '76 1500. What a choice! The Herald motor is the single down draft type. I'm leaning toward the 1500 for now. I have way more parts for it on hand and it's sitting on my shop floor. However, there is significant evidence of a mud dauber infestation in the cylinders since it was stored outside with no spark plugs for about 20 years.(Junkpile Spit's original motor, it was protected under the bonnet) Believe it or not it's not stuck! I just need to pull the head first. I did discover by digging around in the feedback section of ebay that the car was sold last month for $500. Nothing negative on either the buyer or seller. Both auctions were nearly identical. Wonder if the love tap in the rear had anything to do with it. Oh well.. It's mine now and the best car/deal I've found on ebay so far.
