Well i could not help my self. I now have a 1500 engine hanging from a hoist like a prize salmon. I tried the leave the tranny in the car method just to see how hard it would be. Not too bad. I will replace the clutch while i am at it, and put in some case hardened lifters (from PRI) at the same time. I have a 1 1/2 socket that is way to small for the crank nut, is the nut 1 3/4? The problem i have is that it is way too much fun taking things apart. Now that i have air tools it's like gas on the fire. Perhaps i need some kind of intervention.........

I am pretty sure its 1 13/16" I will go out tomarrow and double check what size my socket is.

Thanks Walter and Jeff, i was getting 1 13/16" with my tape. I was hoping that i measured wrong, all they had that was close at the zone was 1 7/8" so i bought that and that was too big. I will cast my net in deeper waters.

Zott, I bought one at my NAPA store. It's a "K Tool" brand, and it has served well over the last 8 years, and I was doing at least two or three rebuilds each year.
If they don't have it in stock, they should be able to order it for you.
The price was decent, for such a large socket, as well. It seems to me it's a 3/4" drive, so I had to get the adapter to use it with my 1/2" stuff.
Jeff
