Spitfire Spitfire carpet question?

I see that there are several styles of carpet kits.
Were the original carpets molded? Or were they like TR6 carpets, cut flat pieces?
With the tunnel and the floor pan brace on the Spit, it looks like they are molded.
I would like to hear some feedback on carpet install kits and how they worked. Do the non molded kits fit well?
I have done a TR6, now need to do a Spitfire. Thanks for any help.

The best carpet sets for Spits are in fact moulded. They are also very expensive at around $450-500 plus shipping. If you can swing it cost wise, you will be much happier with them. When I started shopping for them several years ago, they were around $375 from TRF. With a seasonal discount, I coulda got them cheaper. Stupid me did not order them.

The cut and sewn types run from around $125 to $250. You might check out the price of Prestige Carpets. Made in England, but I think there is a US rep that has them in stock. I cannot figure out why TRF has not produced these at the Magic Carpet. Or maybe you can find a local upholstery shop that will do them from scratch for a resonable cost.

As Bill says, the molded ones would be the best, but they are also the most expensive, of course.

I ordered a set off ebay seller chart-one-auto. I was very pleased with the quality, especially at this price. Some of the cheaper carpet sets are very 'thin' material, but this set is more substantial and looks good in the car. Carpets are made in the UK.

The tunnel-cover piece that sits under the dash and up against the firewall is a challenge to fit, but that may also be the case for molded sets. Thoughtfully, the vertical pieces that glue into the footwells (and receive no wear) are made of a thinner-backed material, which is more flexible and can be glued in, no problem. Same with some of the other trim pieces that are meant to be glued in.

The Spitfire's original carpet was moulded.

I just replaced my carpet with a prestige carpet kit and am very happy with it. It is a sewn/fitted kit and it fit very well everywhere except right in front of the shifter. Once all the carpet pieces where in place, as well as the trim pieces, the fit of the carpetin front of the shift improved.
