Any opinions on the best year of Spitfire with which to build a Spit6? I have a giant truckload of GT6 stuff (hoods, motors, cars) but the GT6 body is shot - but I just found a pretty nice 76 spitfire. Whadda ya think?

Just so you know, if I offer dumb ideas here, I'm a spridget guy so far, looking to branch out.

Yeah, it's really about that simple! Waddaya got that matches up? I've seen folks who match up early GT6 fronts with later "squaretail" Spit bodies, and I've seen the reverse. I prefer seeing as close a "match" as possible, so that it looks more nearly "stock"...but that's me.

It so happens that's what my son and I are doing. After too many years of collecting Triumphs and bits of same, I've ended up with enough 1970 model year Spitfire and GT6 bits to build an "authentic" 1970 Triumph GT6 convertible (or Spit 6 if you prefer, but this one will go by the GT6 commission number).

I also strongly recommend building on a GT6 chassis and running gear rather than simply stuffing a GT6 engine and gearbox into an otherwise unmodifed Spitfire. At the minimum, you really SHOULD have the bigger brakes, usually sturdier rear end, etc.
