Ladies and Gentlemen what roadblocks might I expect when trying to install a Spit Mk3 or 4 engine in an early 1500 model. Motor mounts, transmission, clutch, exhaust, cooling, wiring etc ?

To Andy, does Clarkies wrecking yard, near SPAC still exist ? And do they still specialize in foreign (sports) cars ? Do you have a rebuildable 1300 Spit engine ? Like the castoff from your Spit6 project ?

Thanks all for any scoop. Bob

Hi, Bob! Yes, Clarkie's does still exist. I don't think they've as much British stock as in days gone by, but there's still some there last I knew.

You should have very little trouble with the swap you suggest, especially as the early 1500 (US version, 1973-74) still used the same 10-spline gearbox input shaft. Motor mounts are the same, as are just about everything else. Worst problem would be with an early Mk3 engine IF, for whatever reason, you wanted to keep its generator (unlikely).

Oh, and I probably should keep this part private, but I do have a Mk3 1300 engine if you are interested. Feel free to PM for details!
