I have a 63 Spit 4 on its way from Washington state. I have looked at may picutire of MK1's, MK2's and cannot figurte if the dash should be wood or a black panel of some sort. Mine is wood and now wondering if it is original or not.
 
Spitfire 4 and Spitfire 4 Mk2 instruments were set in a center panel with black crackle finish. The early Spitfire Mk3 had a walnut veneer version of that center panel. Note, though, that aftermarket veneers were available early on (and some folks even used -- gasp -- Contact paper).
