Speedometer Repair Problem

67 BJ8. Years ago my speedo needle was just thrashing around so I just disconnected it. A few years later I decided to send it off to be checked, sent to MOMA. I installed new elbow, new washer, and I had a NOS speedo cable. When I got it back nothing worked. Talk to MOMA and they said to send it back. They said it worked perfect right out of the box, but they would check it again. When I got it back the odometer worked but the speedo still didn't, so I am asking, is there something I'm doing wrong?

Are you sure that your nos cable is long enough? You need to be sure as you are hooking up the speedometer that the cable isn't disengaging from the adapter on the gearbox. Just because the housing fits, doesnt mean the cable does. Can you spin the gearbox end of the cable with a drill and make the needle move? Even a hand cranked eggbeater style drill should do it. Make sure you spin it in the proper direction. Try the old cable. MOMA has a good rep by me, if they say it works.......

I had a problem around 2003 where I'd had my speedo serviced by MOMA and ran it with a replacement cable from Moss. After a year on a trip it gave out after being jerky for a while. Evidently at that time the replacement cables were wound in the incorrect direction and had a tendency to unravel. FWIW.

Yes , send it to Nisongner and get the longer speedo cable for a BJ8
