Speedo cable

Was recently perusing Victoria British and Moss catalogs to purchase a new speedo cable for 76 MGB without service counter. I know the right length, so no problem there. In looking at the catalogs, however, I see that Victoria British says that a copper washer (their P/N 14-880) is required when using the right angle drive attached to the gearbox. Moss, however, makes no mention of the washer, nor does it have a number assigned.
Since I am going to be under the car replacing the fuel tank and the speedo cable can anyone tell me whether the washer is needed, recommended, or what?
Thanks.

Yes IMOP. The washer is required. This washer insures that the cable core does not bottom in the angle drive socket and cause erratic performance of the speedo.--Fwiw--Keoke

Even if not using a right angle adapter the washer was required with my transmission and OD- trust me,
I went through 3 cables until I figured out the problem!

The factory part # for the washer is 3H 550 and is also used to seal the slave cylinder flex line.
