TR2/3/3A speedo and tach placement tr3

Is gauge placement of the speedo and tach different on the later tr3s? Moreover, I have never understood why the firewall placement penetrations let the cables of the tach and speedo cross over on the early tr3s. It seems to me that a straight shot would be better. Anyways I might have this all wrong also.

One mine - TS64566L the speedo is on the right.

Steve,

This came up in an earlier thread where I was asking about speedometer models and Randall indicated they were swapped between early and late TR3's but he wasn't sure where the change occurred. My TR3A (TS51339L) has the speedometer on the right like my TR4A's.

According to the TRA judging guide, the swap (for LHD cars only) happened at TS29098. TS39781LO had it on the right, TS13571L has it on the left.

If anyone has a second (or maybe later) edition of the TSOA Handbook, I think it tells in there about the swap, although I don't remember if it gives the exact date or commission number. I want to say it was somewhere around 1958, but I'm not sure?

Sounds about right. My understanding is that they were swapped to give the navigator a better look at the speedo. Certainly MY 'nagivator' enjoys checking the speed.
