Speed Racer!

My god that looks awful. Sorry, but it does! I was really hoping for something less cheesy.

How can anything based on a CARTOON not be cheesy? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Seems to be a pretty successful trend though.

Superman
Batman
Spiderman
Dare Devil
Electra
Fantastic Four
Even an Ironman movie coming out soon
Transformers
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Garfield
And Alvin & the Chipmunks

Still not my speed.

I mean cheesy even for a cartoon-based movie. Cheesy even for a kid's movie. Cheesy even for a cheesy movie! Lots of money spent on CG, none spent on good writers.

Let us not forget Hellboy! Ok, so it's comic book-based, but still a great one. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I'd definitely separate Batman by director when figuring out the cheese factor. Batman Begins would have the least cheese. Tim Burton’s were medium cheese. Joel Schumacher was of course, the head cheese. Can't wait for the Dark Knight.

Speedracer looks like a children's movie!

Some of the Batman movies made children cry...

Yeah, me as well... mostly over the fact I paid $7+ a head to SEE 'em.

I can't believe that intelligent people would waist their time on this kind of junk! If this is an indication of where the film industry is headed, I'll stick to Turner Classic Movies. At least most of those oldies make sense.

JMHO.

Heck, those are matinee prices out here.

Or an indication of the frequency with which I attend "movie theatres", I s'pose.

For the record, I can't remember the last movie we saw at the big screen. Almost always wait 'til they hit cable.

And "Speed Racer" IS a kids' movie! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif Can't help it if I'm still a kid!

And I'm tellin'!

I gotta back up Micky on this. I love the cartoons and have them all on DVD. I think what the Warshoskis have done is make the cartoon into a movie, and to that end it looks great. The blurry background with the immobile driver as the camera changes the perspective, the bright back lighting as the bad guy is yelling, hard soled driver shoes, and of course Sprocket and Chim-Chim in the trunk. I love that its cheesy. I think it would have been worse if they tried to make a serious "LeMans" kind of film.

Bear in mind, Speed Racer was the infancy of Anime, so everything was cheesy. It just happened to strike a chord with a few people and hence, it has been around for a while. But this lead to Battle of the Planets, and a host of other bizarre Japanese cartoons that have never grabbed outside of Anime enthusiasts.

Plus it’s John Goodman. How can you not love John Goodman?

I think the original is a far better deal, Rick!

...and I see th' Chuck Jones influence onna other wall, too! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif
