Speaking of scams

I don't use a smartphone except for emergency. When you get a text message, how do you know who sends it, and their phone number. Is it like land line Caller ID - where the name and number is usually fake?
Thanks.
Tom M.
If the text is from someone in my contacts list, their name, and photo or initials are displayed. Otherwise, just the phone number is displayed. Since most of the texts I receive are political asking for money, I just delete them.

Tom, on my iPhone if the texted is in my contacts I see their name. Otherwise I see the phone number. That’s a big clue I’m not interested in this text unless the message is from a recognized provider.

Finally!

Today there was a package delivered of clothing addressed to my wife. She did not order it, nor has she heard of the company (I have).
The address label on the outside of the box has my wife's correct name. The packing list says "Hello Emily"... my wife's name is NOT Emily.
Company website only has a chat option, no phone number. In order to initiate chat you have to enter your email address. I have not intention of doing that.
There's a prepaid return envelope to send back what you don't want. Packing list says anything not returned in 3 days will be charged to your credit card.
What to do?

Put a freeze on that credit card for a week or two.
She has two credit cards and we get alerts whenever they are used. To date nothing has shown up. If we do get an unauthorized charge I know American Express will back us up.
I did find a phone number online for the company and will try calling them tomorrow.

Problem SOLVED!
Our daughter-in-law ordered the clothes but neglected to check the ship to address when she placed the order. Since my wife's address was in my daughter-in-laws profile it got shipped to my wife. Just glad it was not something nefarious.

Glad you got it sorted out. I was about to suggest that it might have been a brushing scam:

Just got one of those text messages a few minutes ago telling me my EZ pass was overdue (of course it wasn’t).
The message came with a country code of +63 which is the Philippines.
They need to be smarter than that :p

Got one of those overnight, same country location. Told me I owed $.28 and they'd suspend my car registration and I'd suffer financial penalties. Yea, sure....
