TR2/3/3A Speaking of Road Trips...

Yesterday my wife and I attended the Heartland All British Car Show in Merriam, KS (a suburb of Kansas City). The turnout of cars was quite nice, about 60 or so, including seven TR3s.

As we were walking in, a beat-up TR3 arrived, with its rear-end smashed, dirty and lots of bugs in the front. It looked a little trashed-out. I assumed that someone was bringing it in to sell, rather than entering it as a concours contestant!

It turns out that the two fellows who owned it (brothers?), had just returned, literally, from a 10,000 mile trip to the Arctic Circle and back! OMG! The rear-end damage was from a dump truck that ran up behind them, smashing their trailer as well. When the tail-pipe flattened, the engine blew a head gasket, which they replaced overnight in a hotel parking lot.

Most of us limit our TRs to fairly short trips, maybe a few hundred miles, but 10K? Their perseverance and good-humor about the trip should be rewarded, along with "posterior endurance." Attached are some photos I took of the car.

They mentioned going up the Al-Can Highway, but I don't the exact route.

Wow also. I've been trying so a couple of long haul trips but nothing like that.

Wonder if this was the car where a pic was taken in the "other forum"...would have been prior to the rear ending ...

That's them!
