Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

I almost bought an identical car locally about 10 years ago. The owner was the drummer of a silly bubble-gum group from the 60s/70s called "The 1910 Fruit Gum Company". I didn't buy it but I did take it for a test drive and the thing really screamed and handled like it was on rails!

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

I rode in one at my club - the guy had a MUCH hotter engine, and, had had it lowered! Was 39 inches high.

"Yummy,Yummy,Yummy".....
I'd like to have one.I drove one after driving a Toyota -
almost hit a parked car.It takes a little bit to get used
to the quick steering.

That Europa's in Tom's neighborhood.

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

Have a friend here who raced 'em and had one sitting on the roof of his salvage business.

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

Too much like a little kit El Camino for me. There was one in my old town years ago.

Quicker steering than a Midget?

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

Really? WOW !!! I didn't think you could get much faster.

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

That one is WELL worth the asking price!

Billy... You ain't gonna get it unless you've driven one. That one has about all the 'upgrades' it needs to scare the bejeezis outta most drivers. I'd love to take you on a "demo ride" in one. Used to sell 'em, sometimes had to nearly pour th' prospect outta th' passenger side afterward. Had one fella declare I was a madman, the car was a 'deathtrap'... as he wobbled back to his Capri. Took a few minutes just sittin' in it before he was sure he could start up and drive off.

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

The guys who rebuilt my 'B' engine a few years ago, bought a John Player Special (is that right...the special?) for rebuild. But, could never come up with the money to do the job. As far as I know its still in their garage.
Am I to believe I should pick it up?
Here is the only photo I have of it next to my MGB: https://picasaweb.google.com/Minorsands/1974mgb#5398206741945030050

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

I just can't get past the fact it looks like something built for a Mad Max movie, but if it's that fast....

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

Big difference between "fast" and "quick"! The first posted car has enuff good stuff to narrow the gap between those two terms.

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

I hear ya. Be linin' one up fer that test spin you spoke of. I'll be around there next spring and will have a few days to kill.

So, is the Elise any similar, or are we talking apples to oranges?

Re: Speakin Of "Bein in Love"

The other thing is that they're like
riding a motorcycle. They're so low that some people
don't see you when you're driving one.
The Elise is a whole 'nuther car - it's like
comparing a '73 Civic to a new one.

No Europas here. That was in western PA, back when they were new.

Would that be
"Beattle Bailey" or "Sally Forth"
