And I HATE those massive sub-woofers that you can feel a block away. The visceral sensation is awful.

One of our neighbor's teens has a pickup with those super sub-woofers! I've had to call love a few times and ask them to have mim turn it down. When he has it cranking, there is no place my house to get away from the sound.
 
Yeah, that frequency penetrates anything. In our area, technically, if the music can be heard from a car more than 50' it's illegal, but it's never enforced.
 
I can't stand that stuff.We have a few "neighbors" who
will let their vehicles idle for some time,while the bass is blaring.
If you complain,you'll probably get the "If it's too loud,you're too old" attitude.
I've been tempted to get a two stroke enduro,& do a two hour "tune up" on it,
or ride it to work (I go to work at 4AM).
 
Back in the Ancient Days (in the 1970s when I lived in a Chicago apartment), the guy upstairs liked to "relieve his stress" by cranking up the stereo and joining in on his drumset. Repeated talks with him and landlord gave no relief - he was the landlord's son ...).

So one weekend, I tied my own stereo speakers directly to the ceiling, cranked up a tape loop of random electronic sounds, and left it on while I enjoyed a two day hiking trip up in Wisconsin.

The treatment worked. I have no shame.

(But I'm still amazed at how folks show so little concern for their neighbors, especially with noise ...)

I'm sure Albuquerque isn't the only place with this problem, but around here it is not uncommon to have a car (or SUV) pull up beside you at a light with bass so loud it rattles the trim on your car! It is supposed to be against local ordinance but I don't think it is ever enforced.
 
My neighbor's kid used to blare the radio while washing his car in the driveway and when he came home late at night. One time I pulled the mufflers off my Mustang and put long straight pipes on and fired it up at 10PM in the evening and let it idle. 15 mins. later, the neighbor kid's Dad came over and asked what the H#$@ I was doing. Playing my radio like your son. He said he would take care of the matter, as the V-8's resonance made all the windows in the house vibrate and not quietly. Peace from then on.
 
I used to live in a condo and would occasionally practice my saxophone. My downstairs neighbor thought he could crank his stereo louder than my tenor saxophone. That turned out to be an expensive mistake for him as he blew his speakers.

I do hate the massive subwoofers in cars -- it's not even about listening at that point, it's just a bunch of rattling.
 
Thank God there are no more boom boxes around here. Those car subwoofers are bad enough. You can't even hear the melody - if there is one.
 
The companies that sell hearing aids love them! :highly_amused:
