I tried the search for a thread with info (and possibly a web link??) regarding MG stereo speaker installation. It was mainly regarding speaker thickness... I know someone out there knows the link I speak of /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Hi Ed,

Even if speaker thinkness is a problem. You can purchase little inserts (not sure what they are called, but generally made from plastic) that extend the speakers outward from the mounted surface.

Where are u mounting the speakers?

Whack a BIG AMP and some SUBBIES in the boot, get your car pumpin dude! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/driving.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Try this link that I just resurrected: https://www.aerog.com/mgpage/speakers.htm

Some of the specific speaker models may not be available but the measurements of the door havent changed. The Alpine speakers I used work fairly well but the final installation could really use an amp.

I was just after a modest installation with a Blaupunkt CD and four speakers. The doors are easy for four inch Jensen or most Japanese. Easy wire routing with grommets and holes drilled in the jams. In behind the seats on both sides are body holes behind the door opening. With a little edge bending with a plier, you get four inch ones in easy. The floor mats and floor carpeting are not glued down. They are held down by the seats so you can easily route wire under dash, take off outside kick panel, route wire underneath, then go under the floor carpet under seat, up along panel behind seat on outside wall and voila. Four speakers. Power for "constant" by splitting off the clock. Power for switched from just about anywhere since unit does not draw much power.

A couple years ago I installed some 6 1/2" stock subaru speakers behind my B's seats. I used the pattern the speakers came with to cut a hole in the separation from the trunk to the cabin, and slipped the speakers in with no problems. I'm sure you could rig something with a bad-ass woofer if you wanted, too. This setup doesn't take up much space from the trunk OR the cabin.

I also added some 1.5" peeps on the dash and some alpine speakers in the doors.

In sum, 6 speakers with a full range of tone. No amp was needed. As for quality, my speakers are all fairly cheap, so they definitely leave room for improvement, but I really like the "surround sound" effect.

As for wiring, I am not an electrician (despite the years of tinkering with our good friend Lucas) and simply made each side in-line. No fade, in other words.

I believe this is a good setup if you want to keep things cheap, and don't want to clutter up what little room you have.

Really need to pay attention to speaker depth. I replaced my speakers a few years ago with som pioneers. Not expensive, but fit the car for depth...barely! When I roll down windows, magnet on back of speak jumps onto window mechanism and the door panel moves inward a fraction! No harm to anything and the speakers continue to work...it just remindes me that I dare not ever replace these speakers with any that are deeper as the speaker will then interfere with the window travel.
