Here is a photo of my speaker installation in the 'Kidney' panels either side of the centre console. The ply base looks to be home made (some old furniture?) and the foam is long dead. After cutting the speaker hole, I glued some circular speaker mounting rings so they don't dissapear into the foam padding. Otherwise an easy evening job.

Thanks for posting those, I'll need them for referece when I cut mine up.
 
You have to watch the thickness of the speaker used as there is only 1 inch or so clearance behind the panel. Many modern speakers have big thick magnets that are too thick.
