Spark plug wires

Finally getting my parts list together for my next trip to see my 67 sprite. I wanted to change the plugs and wires as part of the tune up process and while searching the moss catalog I see both side and top entry type wires. Since my car is so far away I can't just check to see which I have /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

So my question is.. I've read a few threads about various wire sets people have used (some from 8 cylinder engines etc) and I'm wondering if those sets work with both side and top entry caps. Any specific set recommendations would be great as well,I might just pick them up at Advanced Auto if they are common enough and save myself some shipping.

thanks!

Daniel

They will work with either cap. My local Advance has them in stock, part #3008 with straight boots; part # 3009 has 90' boots - either will work. If you end up having a cap that the wires plug into the ends and boots for the cap side are included and you just need to crimp them on with a pair of pliers. The box comes with crimping instructions.

A side mount for the win. The wires are held in with a screw.

Take a tiny screwdriver with you, hehe!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

If you have a side entry cap you can only use "solid" core wires. Those are ones that have stranded metal in the core. You cut them square and insert into the cap hole and tighten the screw which pierces the cable jacket and contacts the wire core.

You will have radio crackle with solid core...you have to then use the factory type resistor plug "boots" or the inline style.

You cannot use supressor core wire because the core will burn back inside of the cable and in a week or a month of driving the car will start to miss. In addition you cannot use the better 8mm wire in a side entry cap.

If you get a "do it yourself universal set" get a 90* plug boot with snap/ring terminals and 90* terminals and boots for a stack (socket) dist cap. If you have a side entry cap you might give it the flotation test. The only reason for a side entry cap on a Spridget is right hand drive clearance for the steering shaft.

I'm using the 3009 wires on Jack's advice earlier.

The red caps, yellow wires, and Oliver tractor green that the previous owner painted my engine/valvecover gives it that authentic Oliver feel.
