Spark Plug Gap

I've read conflicting advice. What IS the appropriate spark plug gap when using Pertronix solid state ignition?
Thanks
Jim(BN7)

Hi Jim,

I'll add to the conflicting advice

I'm using a Lucas sports coil, as Pertronix runs better with a 40,000 volt coil.
My mechanic recommended I up the 25 gap to 35.

Using the wider spark plug gap is an improvement in ignition, provided you are also using an uprated coil.---Fwiw--Keoke

Thanks guys. I upped the gaps today to 0.035 and a periodic misfire I was getting seems to have now gone away. (I do have an uprated Lucas coil).
Cheers

My Lucas coil has no markings on it except HA 12 on the bottom. Is there any way to determine if this is an uprated coil? Thanks and have a good day!

Hi John,
The Lucas sports coil, which produces 40,000 volts, has the gold case.
Cheers,

HI John, The HA12 was a stock coil of the period. The current Uprated sport coil is Gold in color as has been stated and carries the Identification DB105 on its bottom. However, there was an earlier version of the sport coil which is silver has a large red insulated top and an integral attaching nut for the high tension lead.--Fwiw--Keoke

John,

The earlier silver sports coil with the red top that Keoke refers to are stamped SA-12 on the bottom.

Is it worth buying the sport coil over the stock model?
