Spare transmission

I have a spare tranny and dont know what it goes to. I'd like to sell it off so I can buy more parts for my project if . It might be one of those side shifters. I say this because the shifter's mounted on the side. LOL. How can I identify it?

You do not have a side shifter in your 61? Centershifts did not come along until 62 --elrey

no, it comes right out the top. The spare one Doesn't have the overdrive unit. You think the guy my dad bought it from switched these two tranny's so he could have the OD. The spare came from the same guy. It was a PKG deal along with a bunch of other parts but most of those have gone through the years. Are you saying my 61 is supposed to be a side shifter?

:yesnod: Yep, thats right! Do NOT sell the side shifter! :nonod: You may need it. :yesnod: The parts for these things are outasite. If your centershift breaks for any reason, and they do, you will be glad you have the s.s. Trust me on this one. You might even go as far as to keep a lookout for a sideshift tranny tunnel. Someday you may blow that overdrive, it happens, and you will be pleased as punch to install the s.s. --elrey

Sounds like thats probably sound advice Elery. Having that spare saved my bacon just the other day when I needed a replacement angle drive. I'm just so tight on $$$ and anxiose to get this baby back on the road. Working at the church doesn't pay very well ( monitaraly ) Does everyone else agree I should hang on to the spare side shifter ?

A detour always generates a choice between 2 tasks, each with it's own pros and cons.

For all of you planning for future disasters I have about 85% of an OD side shift transmission I will sell cheap, except shipping will probably kill any potential deal. Missing the side cover, most everything else is there. Will sell any or all parts separately. If you respond please reference Moss cat #'s so I know what you're taking about. Thanks, Bob

Being Mr. Learn by doing, I have learned the hard way to NEVER get rid of any part of a car project until the project is finished. Park the parts to the side. The part you throw away will be the part you WILL regret getting rid of later. --elrey
