spare tire Healey 100

Well....I finally got around to getting a spare for the Healey.Foud a brand new chrome wire on ebay cheap and mounted a Vredestein 165 radial on it. Lo and behold it does not fit in the hole. Other than securing it with a bungy cord what have other people done?

Thanks:
Pete

Pete--

I experienced the same problem on my 100 when I switched from bias ply tires to radials. I solved it by taking a scissors jack and carefully expanding the opening a bit until the tire slipped into the opening. I know this sounds painful but it worked perfectly and did not hurt a bit.

Hey Pete,
Is it a 48 spoke wire wheel ? Assuming it is you might try putting something as simple as a sheet of polyethelene or even the plastic grocery bags you get at your local grocery store under the wheel. Then kind of move it up and down and you should be able to slide it in. At least that's what worked on my 100M. If your wheel is a 60 spoker, you might have bigger problems although I believe the width of the wheel/rim does not impact the width of the hub.
Good luck,
Mike

I should have mentioned that the tire/wheel combo requiring the scissor-jack treatment is a 175 Michelin on a 60 spoke wheel.

Thanks guys.... it is a 48 spoke...I will try both methods.......it seems to be more of a horizontal problem than vertical....I will eyeball it again...been workin on my new e-type and the poor Healey is gettin 2nd class treatment.

Pete

Vredestein makes a 155/80/15 radial that will fit on your 48 spoke and also fit in the spare wheel space without any problems. Wheelguy
