Source - Metal Clips for securing Convertible Top and/or Seat Covers

Hi All,

I am looking for a source for the clips used to secure the BJ8 convertible top to the back gutter surround and are also used in securing seat covers to the seat frames. These small spring clips with 2 tines to grab and hold the vinyl material seem to be difficult to come by and I would appreciate if anyone has a reasonable priced source or supplier.

In 1971 I replaced my original top with one purchased from Sears. This top has lasted with the only issues being 48 years of moderate shrinkage and window discoloration along with a recently failed zipper.

As the top overall was in very good condition, I decided to replace the zipper and window and, since I could not get a local servicer to take the risk/reward of sewing in new components, I used an Awl with 20lb black woven fishing line to hand sew in the new components. Now, in the process of reinstalling the convertible top, I find the number of securing metal clips to be far less then needed with many of the non-broken clips being over extended and/or rusted.

I would appreciate knowing if a source for these clips is available.

Thanks,
Ray(64BJ8P1)

Hi John,

YES.
Searched Moss but did not find them. Boy, I expected a price of maybe $0.15 or even $030 per clip but $0.69 seems a price gauge of those needing them. They will be my last gasp source.

Thanks again John,

Probably from the days Sears still had a "Foreign Car Parts Catalog", mostly VW stuff, but you could still get a lot of LBC parts including interiors, tops and even rebuilt engines.
That was the year I bought a top for my TR4A from Sears. I was in Hawaii at the time.

Hi Elliot,

Yes.
That is the clip, and at a price of $9.90 for a package of 35, is so much better then Moss's charge of $0.69 each. However, a fixed shipping charge of 12.95BP brings the cost to over $29 and the price advantage disappears.

At these prices, has anyone found an acceptable alternative clip or method for attaching the top or seat covers?

Thanks again,
Ray(64BJ8P1)

Ray,

Check some of these out: https://www.amazon.com/50-Upholster...=1551726320&s=gateway&sr=8-25&tag=googhydr-20

Thanks John,

I like the larger clip in the "+" designation but still have to find out what they are made of. The shipping is reasonable for the number ... as apposed to $ 35 to ship 10 clips (+ a Couple Dollars cost of clips).

Thanks again,
