Hello,
I am hoping to finally put my 1960 Bugeye back together this June. The car was totally dismantled when I restored the body. I know I need to replace the wiring harness. The outer cloth wrapping is gone, and so is most of the colored cloth that coated each individual black wire. The plastic wire coating is cracking in many places. Can someone give the best source that could supply an original looking wiring harness? Any tips for installing the wiring harness?
Kevin

I bought mine from AH Spares. The price was great even with shipping it across the pond. It looks just like my original harness.

I noticed that there seems to be two parts to the wiring harness. There was the major portion in the car, and then there was antoher section running through the bonnet that plugs into the harness. When you order from AH spares, do both pieces come together when you order the harness?
Kevin

That piece was included with my harness. As a matter of fact my old and new harnesses are both in my living room now and spread across the floor so I can put labels on the new wire ends. I ordered the wire that goes from the starter switch to the starter as a separate piece as it does not come with the harness.

Thanks so much Nelson. I will be ordering one later tonight.I like your idea of labeling everything, however, a few of my labels fell off, and some mice got into the box I had the wiring in. It should prove interesting.

The harness for the BE is really 4 different peices. One is the harness from the dashboard to the engine compartment. Two, is the harness from the dashboard to the rear. Three is the harness from the headlight dip switch to the passenger side of the engine compartment. Four, the harness on the bonnet (hood). Make sure you get all four, as it is not always obvious when ordering. In addition to the harness, various butt-connectors will need to be ordered too. They come in various numbers, 1x1, 2x2 and 3x3. Need about 20 of the 1x1, 5 of the 2x2 and a couple of the 3x3.

Hope this helps. If anyone whats to learn how to solder the male butt connectors, let me know,as I have it down to a science.

And the $$ vs GBP ratio is the best its been in several months. Remember that the dip switch harness is a separate item from AH Spares (item XELG117 for LHD).

Thanks for the advice and help on installing. I hope I ordered correctly form AH spares.I ordered the wiring harness, and then I ordered the separate dip switch harness.I will be writing for more advice in June. Thanks again,
Kevin

Anyone use British Wiring in PA? They are fairly close to me and I'd like to try them.

Dip switch harness from British wire was $18.00. Same harness from AH Spares was about $11.00. I ordered the dip switch harness and an hardura for the boot from AH Spares this morning.

So let me start by saying I just realized I had been waiting for Tony to jump in :frown:

He would have answered by now and said that all the harnesses are the same, manufactured at the same place, same number and that he has even opened boxes from one dealer only to find the tag from another inside.

I have used British Wire for individual wires and other supplies as well as a manette harness but never a full harness. I found them easy to deal with and eager to help. Their materials have all been first class too.
