A couple of weeks ago I posted a question regarding the horns in our TR4A being blown. Everybody had a pretty good time with it, but I'm in a bind.
Wiring is not my strong point, and I don't want to cause any damage to a 37 year old wiring harness if possible.
Actually it's been wired positive so there have been some changes. Whan the PO changed to a custom steering wheel they just left the horn(s) to sit idle.
I have an opening in the dash where I would like to place a horn button and I'm not sure where I should set the inline fuse. I'm not sure if I should wire directly to the voltage regulator or cut into a hot line under the dash.
I'm guessing this is a simple project but I'm not sure about the proper path of the new horn wire.
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Gettin close to storage time here in Iowa, this year I'm pulling the front calipers so I can do what little rebuild can be done on them.
Hope everybody has a great October of motoring!

Thanx

On a TR4 the power lead comes from the solenoid and has an inline fuse, the horns on a 4A may be similar but (I think) use a relay. If the original wiring and relay are present then I would try using that, if not you would want to wire similarly.

If you do not have a wiring digram for the car this would probably be the time to get one. Note that TR horns are typically wired with the ground side switched (horn push) though this is just to accomodate the design of the steering wheel.

Winston , the simple thing is to get the replacement horns per TRF, they dont know pos from neg ground(I think) but in anycase hook them up and go. Some guys like big noises but, like in the islands its not polite, so why bother???
