Sound masking earphones?

I can find noise-canceling earphones/headphones/earbuds just about anywhere I look in stores and online.

I can find white noise (rain, waterfall, forest sounds, etc.) generators that play to the open air just about anywhere I look.

But I can't find any white noise earphones anywhere. Weird-a-mundo.

Something to wear when the neighborhood kids ride their ATVs, their daddy races his hot rod engine, their mommy cranks up the chainsaw, packs of motorcycles roar past every few minutes, etc.

I've tried noise-canceling headphones, but to me they're only effective on constant sounds - not actually covering up mixed sounds. And buying a $$$ smartphone with a "white noise" app and earbuds is a tad pricey.

Any suggestions? other than learning to play drums or setting up a steam whistle testing stand ...? Sure seems a set of earphones or earbuds with "built in" white noise (sound masking) would be popular.

Thanks.

Old AM radio tuned to an empty station.

Thanks gentlemen. The Bose system at $249 also seems to require a bluetooth smart device. And I've found that just playing my 1947 Silvertone radio (!) tuned to "AM hiss and static" works great - but only if I stay next to the radio. Discovered recently that radios from the last 20 years or so actually filter out hiss and static.

Having something I can wear indoors and outdoors is the target. Maybe there's something like an old Sony Walkman radio that lets the hiss/static through.

Sorry, my mistake. Didn't read far enough through the blurb.

How about a MP3 player, playing a MP3 of whatever you want? They make small portable units that cost very little; and you can plug in whatever headphone or bud you like.
Here's a wired version for $20,

Or wireless for $30 (plus headphones)

Here's an assortment of free noise (lots more available)

That would also give you the option of other sorts of "noise", like maybe some nice Debussy or soft jazz, whatever tickles your fancy. Eg,

I could probably even set you up with some Buddhist chanting if you want :D

PS and FWIW, I like listening to audio books in the car when I'm by myself. Might work for you, too. Best if it's something where continuity isn't too important, like Terry Pratchett or Douglas Adams or Tom Robbins.

Tom just get a good set of Sennheiser closed-back monitor headphones and crank up some AC/DC - you won't hear those pesky kids on ATVs! :cool-new:

I am all for setting up a steam whistle test stand.

Who needs ear protectors? I was stationed fro two years on two lighthouses with 142 db fog horns that ran appx 17% of the time. We had NO ear protection and still heard the radio.
