Just finished putting in a stereo in my daily driver Spit - just thought I'd leave a couple photos for anyone interested. It was quite a contortionist act putting the different components in - I'll feel it tomorrow.
I was given a nice Clarion cd player model DB155 from an old friend, with new harness etc., and purchased a new set of MB Quart RCE213 component speakers(German), a pile of crimp connectors, wire, nuts and bolts, etc. and went to it. I constructed my own speaker boxes out of plywood, cut with a jig saw, glued and nailed and roughly sprayed black. I used lamp cord for speaker wire - more than thick enough.
The processors in the photos came with the speakers and basically cut the highs from going to the woofers, and cut the bass from going to the separate tweeters. The speakers are mounted in the only space I could find - to the left and right of the driver and passenger's feet in a small void(I did not want to cut holes in anything). The tweeters are mounted on the left and right bolted to the rail on the edge of the glove boxes.
As far as Triumph wiring goes, I metered a few suspicious wires under the dash to find a baby blue wire coming from the ignition switch that turned on and off with the ignition(looked like a previous install of some sort), and put in a new wire to the battery side of the starter solenoid(so the stereo will remember the time and radio station presets).
Also installed a very nice new retractable antenna,
The stereo sounds incredible. Very clear.
you may also notice I skipped the stock stereo slot/dash support. This is totally intentional. Being that I have a rollbar in this car it is pretty tight as it is without the stock stereo support. So, I bolted the other existing dash supports down very tight(they were all loose for some reason), and bolted the stereo right to the dash.
Now on to the next thing - new horns.
