I am sure that no one wants to see this, but, I found yet another picture of a first... circa 1970, in the Navy, Viet Nam era, had to have a 'B' and this is it... 1965 MGB, British Racing Green... I ABSOLUTELY LOVED this car.... Actually, I met a girl that became my wife 35 years ago because of it...
Sold it in '72 and bought a VW Van due to family expansion...

Man, were these cars great back then... They are even better today....Me thinks that we too oft forget the history the we have in our LBCs....

Looks familiar. I'll have to dig up the old photos of my '65 MGB, which was my first car. Fortunately I still have it!

Steve,

I envy you... wish I had kept a few of the cars that are now classics that I owned... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Only sold one I regretted. The Mk I Lotus Cortina. My first car was a '66 MGB and it succumbed to PA road salt after an honourable decade plus one year life, and over a quarter-million miles. Any other cars I've sold (a total of three), I received fair compensation for. It is rare for me to sell my 'children' but once in a while it just made sense. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Aloha Ron,

A very nice looking MGB. Where was the photo taken? I spent several years in the Navy, but don't recognize the base.

I had an Austin Healey 3000 Mk III that was my first car in 1970. I sold that in '71 after I was married. My wife could not reach the pedals and see over the dash at the same time. The Healey was replaced with a Vega. A few guys in my car club really enjoy that story and rib me about it routinely.

As well they should, Dave! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

There was a plus side, about a year later I bought my TF, which I still have. However, having the Healey and the TF would have been better.

Aloha and Mahalo Dave,

I was P3 Aircrew and flew out of Moffett Field. Ergo, The building in the background is (or was) the admin building for Moffett Field in Mountain View California. Behind that was the huge hanger that, in the 20's and 30's, housed the dirigables (sp)...

Go NAVY!!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Aloha Ron,

I was a ship driver, I never made it to Moffett, but I was near by at NAS Alameda and then NPS Monterey. The buildings had that California look.

I sold my first but I was better off. It was a 72 midget and had rearend damage. Still looking for another though.

My first was a 65, drove it into the ground, literally and figuratively. When I finally got it down to two gears, 3rd and 4th I had to let it roll down a hill backwards into a ditch. I was at a stopsign that was at the top of a hill and just couldn't get the 3rd gear to kick in from a dead stop. Obviously poor route planning on my part, otherwise I might still be driving it! As I've said before they are remarkable machines and those of who love them are better than other people. IMHO

Guys,

These stories and pictures warms my heart.

I found a book at Barnes&Noble the other day titled 'Crap Cars'...

You guessed it.. The MGB was in it... The author said 'the only thing worse than the car are the people who talk, ad nausium, about restoring and driving them...'

This guy obviously needs a little help... He also, obviously, has never owned or driven one of our GREAT cars from Morris Garage!!!

Needless to say.. I didn't buy his book!!!

Yeah, that book has been discussed before.

Guy obviously has some sort of bad experience in his past. Mebbe his mum deserted the family for a fella driving an MGB. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Who is he and where?

Lets all go there and circle around the house for a few days with with our LBC's./bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

mehheh. In this day-and-age we'd be subject to "terrorism" charges for that.

IIRC he didn't dislike the 2CV... THAT oughta be ~telling~ enuff. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

I bought my first MGB in 1972, it was also a 65, complete with a Bermuda hardtop.

em754,

Thanks for the picture... What is that in the background???

I just got back from three weeks in your beeeuuuttifulll country.... Sydney, Cairns, Port Douglas, Brisbane, Coolum, Hunter Valley (visiting friends) and back to Sydney... I wanna move there....but, apparently, too old...

Besides, how could I drive my LHD MGA in a world of RHD cars.. I had enough trouble staying left as it was...

It is Dover Castle in Kent, UK. I bought the car on my first visit back home.
Driving on the wrong side of the road certainly keeps you on your toes, I still remember my touring holidays in the USA.
You have some beautiful scenery over there!
