I switched my supplemental insurance provider as of January 1 of this year. In December I sent a letter via fax (per their instructions) to the insurance company telling them that as of December 31, 2025 I was canceling my policy and to stop debiting my bank account #xxxxx for the monthly premium.
Last week I checked my bank account and saw that the insurance company had debited my account for approximately $200 despite the fact that the policy was canceled.
I called the insurance company and they acknowledged that they had received my cancellation letter and that my policy was terminated as of January 1, 2026.
Great I said.... "What about refunding the premium that you withdrew from my bank for the month of January?"
The lady on the phone responded with "IF a refund is due......." To which I stopped her right there and said "What do you mean IF?"
Here's the good part.....
I contacted my bank who ask me for documentation of the letter I sent to the insurance company as well as the fax confirmation; both of which I provided. Based on my proof, the bank credited me back with the funds because I had revoked the permission I had given the insurance company to debit my account prior to them taking the funds.
Sometimes things go the way they should!
