The big brown truck delivered the new rocker yesterday and the front and rear end caps the Roy (Gray_Cat) donated showed up at the post office (Thanks Roy!) so I got them installed today. Next will be patching up the lower hinges and A pillars.

I've been a sniffling, sneezing, coughing, aching bum this week so I didn't get too much done. I patched the RH lower hinge mount / tapping plate assembly and re-skinned the A pillar yesterday. It was a toss up between just buying a replacement tapping plate assembly or patching what was there. There was good metal to work with so I patched it. Now I need to grind down the welds and do the final adjustments with the door on.

No real tricks, you just need to clamp the sill down and check the fitment before you go too crazy welding it in. The door is the best indicator of sag and the only issue I had was getting the horizontal body line to match up with the rear quarter. The way the cars are constructed the bottom of the quarter panel is spot welded to the top of the sill. Since there is no longer any access to that area with the inner sill and inner fender installed you can't weld it there when you replace the sill. I aligned the back of the sill with the quarter panel at the wheel opening and tacked it, then moved to the front of the quarter / back of the door and aligned it. I had to place a floor jack and block of wood under the sill and jack the sill up to the quarter to close the gap, then pry the outer sill away from the inner sill to get good vertical alignment of the quarter and outer sill. Once the alignment is good I tacked the quarter to the outer sill. Then I pulled the inner and outer sills together and aligned to tops. I drilled hole at the top edge of the inner sill and tacked to front and back from inside the cockpit. I welded from this side because it easier to grind the welded down and you don't see it once the interior is in. For the front I bolted the outer sil though to the inner foot well where the wing bolts up. This pulled them together and I drilled and welded as before but since the fender will cover the welds I drilled to outer sill flange. For the lower edge I cheated and put a series
tacks between the inner and outer sill from under the car. Once it was tacked up everywhere I finished the rest of the welds working on one area for a bit and then going to another so that there was as little distortion as possible.
Yes, I'm running 0.023" wire with gas.

Nice work! Yep, it's just panels & we can get most of them pretty cheap...the rest is labor & yours sure looks nice!
