Something I'm curious about

This is not intended to be political, so please don't take it in that direction. We were talking about it at work today, and no-one had a clear answer.

If we (as taxpayers) are paying the salary of an elected official who is seeking a different office while still holding the one they were elected to, do they still get paid, despite the fact that the official isn't actually executing the office that they were elected to?

Unfortunately, "yes" is the answer.

Remember: THEY have written the rules for at least the last century.

That needs to change, IMO.

Walk in to the boss. "I'm looking for another job. I won't be here while I do, so you can just keep paying me - oh and if anything is urgent, call someone else. I'll let you know if it works out, otherwise I'll be back. Thanks."

I'd be "helped" out by the third sentence...

Hmmmm, since the person is an elected official, could you, as taxpayers, start a petition for a recall? That way the recall election would have someone else in there sharpish....

Unfortunately Illinois does not have a recall provision and neither does the federal gov. We really do need it!

I've seen this happen in the private sector.

I've seen all of it except the last part.
If I could just figure out how to do the "I'll be back" bit, then that would be awesome...
