I'm too young, but some may remember:
Air Raid on Pearl Harbor.jpg

Went to our Vet's park today, they had a nice ceremony, three WW-II veterans there too.

A fair attendance.

When we took a trip to Oahu a few years back we made it a point to visit the Arizona. I have hundreds of pictures of Hawaii, the Missouri, etc., but chose not to photograph the Arizona - just went and paid our respects.

Same here - that sunken ship is a grave for over 1000 Americans. Would you chip off pieces of a gravestone?

Good grief. Even tho' the US Navy gave/sold them the steel (why?), I'm not pleased by what that company is doing.

Yea, I'd like to know where this steel came from, removed from the ship at this time, or some bits found on the point where much of the wreckage was dropped after be removed in 41/42 as part of the then salvage. Most of what was removed from the topsides was dumped and eventually reused during the war, so could be scraps found there or in a warehouse or such.

Same here Basil.

The article says the steel is *from* the USS Arizona. That's not something to be chopped up for corporate gain.

When we visited the Arizona, there was a large group of Japanese tourist
there also.It made it really hard to reflect & take it all in.Nothing against them
being Japanese,it was more of the being in a large group of people.

The first time I saw the ad for the "keep Sakes"?, I was and still am disgusted. People who are trying to make a profit on the deaths of so many men in the Arizona are totally disgusting! I wouldn't have one of those things if they were giving them away for free! Let our heroes who gave it all rest in peace!

Sadly you know they'll probably sell like hot cakes.

A couple more shots from our Pearl Harbor commemorative. First is a press scrum interviewing a WW-II survivor, our past. Second is our future, Junior ROTC Cadets.

Knew a young kid years ago when I would help out in the summers with my former Boy scout troop. Frustrated the h#ll out of me as he'd do dumb things and several time narrowly avoided injuring himself or others. But after high school he did 2 hitches in the Marines, amazing what that did for him, I was happy to know the polite, respectful young man that came back.
