Some news for diecast collectors

I have found this news item on Hemmings' website.

Corgi is going to auction its archive of prototype and “Number One” vehicles. Until now, it has been Corgi’s policy to retain the first item off the production line for the archive, and it is a selection of these Number Ones that Bonhams will sell, along with a selection of prototypes used in the manufacturing process, such as hand-painted resin samples and mock-ups.

More than 500 lots will be available, many of which relate to famous American and European silver-screen characters and properties, like James Bond/007, Star Trek, Batman, The Beatles, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, The Muppets, Doctor Who, Starsky & Hutch, Knight Rider, Only Fools & Horses, The Avengers and Noddy. Corgi will also make one very special lot available at the Bonhams auction. The “Corgi Golden One” lot will guarantee the successful bidder the “Number One” model from every Corgi Collector die-cast to be released in 2008, comprising over 350 models delivered direct to their door — all certified as the “Number One” of each release.

The auction will take place on October 3 at Bonhams’ Knowle salerooms in Solihull, West Midlands. Sale catalogues listing all of the Corgi items to be sold by Bonhams cost about $30 each, plus postage and packaging. To order a copy, please call Bonhams’ Catalogue Subscriptions on +44 (0)1666 502 200, or e-mail: subscriptions@bonhams.com.

Looks like they are haveing a cash flow problem.

These models they are auctioning are from their prototype collection and some VERY special editions! Don't be surprized to see some of them going for what you could buy a full-sized one for!!!!!

I am constantly amazed at what some of my childhood toys (my Dad was quite indulgent with toy cars for me!) are going for, and disappointed that they disappeared the way so many childhood possessions do!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nopity.gif
