Started the process of breaking down the engine and it started by finding lots of sparkly bits in the bottom of the pan. I then went ahead and pulled the pistons. The bearings look perfect as they did before woohooo. Piston 2's upper ring fell apart the second it left the bore. I'll let the picture tell you about 3 and 4 with 4 on the left. So much for getting lucky and just doing a rering.

That is not the prettiest picture I've ever seen, but then, it is repairable.
How are the bores looking? Can you get away with honing the cylinders, or is a boring necessary?

I haven't seen any damage to the bores but I can feel a rounded off ridge in 3 of the bores and my finger nail is catching on a ridge in #3. I think its going to need to taken up to the next size.
 
Looks like the end gap on the top ring was a little on the tight side. That ridge may not be too bad, is it above the ring area? Even so, you need some new pistons, so a little over bore might not be a bad idea to get the best end result.
 
Well...That explains the crop dusting.

Looks like 'yer gonna be digg'n some new holes.
