Solid color or 2 tone paint

I've chosen the color of Healey Ice Blue for my my 62 BJ7. Now for the difficult choice of with or without the Old English White insert? I've read past posts where some feel the 2 tone paint looks best on pre BJ cars. Your opinions please!

DT,
The color you chose to paint your car is too personal for anyone else to decide. I'm sure that you have looked at many photos of both paint schemes & know what they look like. I'm sure that whichever you choose, it will look great to most everyone.

Your right! Six of one half dozen of the other. In the end it's personal choice! Solid color it is /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

While Dave is absolutely right, this is a personal thing, I figured you asked because you want to get other people's opinion. To me, 2 tone paint looks a little fussy on BJs. They look meaner and leaner with a solid paint color, more like they want to run fast then they want to take the family on a picnic. But if you're going to do 2 tone, the blue with white coves in one of the best looking combos.

Obviously, color choice is a very personal decision and there are rarely bad decisions made in this regard. Having said that, I'll weigh in with my opinion. To me, one of the most charming aspects of the Austin Healey, and one of the distinctive characteristics of the car when it was new, was its two tone paint scheme - in a multitude of variations. These two tone paint jobs really set the car apart from all others on the road. When it was time to re-paint my originally solid H.Blue BJ8, it was a no brainer to go with OEW coves. It's a classic look that never fails to elicit admiring comments and thumbs up on the road. Just my two cents.

If you can't decide right now, the good news is that you don't need to! Just go with Healey Blue, and later, if you change your mind, you can easily add the OEW.

My only real advice on this question is to use original colors.

Good thinking Reid. I hear from legend that some dealers added the white coves to some cars to get some selection on the lot.

Easy enough to do I suppose.

Thanks for the opinions.

Part of the reasoning behind my post was that I've never personally seen the 2 tone and the solid color side by side. Not having the luxury of attending any major events the closest I've come was seeing 5 Healeys in solid colors at a small British car meet. I've always loved the 2 tone combination and feel it looks sportier whereas the solid color seems a little classier. Once again personal opinion!

Its a personal choice when alls said and done... please yourself.

The Blue/White scheme is very attractive... though I think it gives the cars an appearance that's a little more '50s than '60s. Others may differ in that view... but please yourself, either way you'll have a handsome car....
