Sold My 1960 Bugeye

Sad to see it moving on, but the buyer got a really nice car. Any thing new on the horizon?

That makes sense. You had a great Bugeye run.

I turn 50 shortly, and even I'm starting to appreciate the passing of time and the limits on what I have left. Really makes me want to get going on my Bugeye.

At 81, I am the "youngster" in our shop. One of the partners is 87 and he just bought a '73 MGB and starting on a full rotissery restoration.

I did make a concession to age, '72 in August, and while on Vacation in Nashville last month, found an '04 Miata MAZDASPEED with 38k miles. Beautiful shape and after taking a test drive and feeling the Factory Turbo kick in, I knew I needed this car, especially for FL Summers with top up and AC on. 1 of 5,200 built Worldwide, so it is collectible. Formerly owned by 2 "grey haired" folks so it never received the fast and furious treatment as so many of them have. Will keep things stock. A totally different driving experience than Bugsy. And way more comfortable to cruise in and exit gracefully. No plans to sell Bugsy but...?

Closing in on the double-nickel myself. I drew inspiration from the group of volunteers (now disbanded) that restored a pair of TBM Avengers over the course of 20 years. By the time I first started visiting with them more than 10 years ago, the average age of the group was 84 years old....working on airplanes! If you screw up something on a car, you can pull to the side of the road and call a tow truck. If you screw up on an airplane, there's no side of the road at 8,000 feet. And these guys did not screw up. True craftsmen in every sense of the word. It was my time with them that made my take the plunge with my '69 Sprite.

Time eventually does win out. Less than a handful of all the guys are still with us, and only 3 left of the group who were there from day one, all in the 90s now and no longer working on the airplanes. I was so fortunate for the time I had with this group.

Had opportunity to drive one of the 6-speed '04 turbo Miatas a while back. Well done, Jim. Comfortable fun!

We had a fellow in my Orlando club who was into hos 80's. Still had his TD but actually spent his time helping others in the club wrench on their cars as he still liked the idea of restoring care but just didn't want to do his own any longer.

I sold my 1960 Bugeye to a good home. I have enjoyed owning it for the last almost 9 years.
Having seen it when I visited you back in the day, I was really tempted to reach out and inquire. Glad it went to a good home.
