soft top window stains

my soft top, which is rarely up, has a "stain" mark from where it sat on the spare tire for 20 years, like the rubber from the tire gassed off onto the clear vinyl window, I'm wonder, but doubting, if it can be polished out, anyone have experience with this? Top is otherwise perfect, a Robbins.

some folk talk of the Mr Clean Miracle Eraser

what about one of those kits for cleaning foggy headlight covers?

That's what I'm wondering, sure would like a "been there done that" report before I make it worse. I sorta think the "staining" penetrated and is more than just a surface thing but it would sure be nice to just spend some quality time with some polish and make it purdy again. Otherwise, I could have a shop replace with a zip out version.
