TR2/3/3A soft brake pedal on TR 3

I just put a new Moss brake master cylinder and replaced several old brake lines on my 1961 TR 3. I bleed the brakes twice and am still getting a soft pedal on the first push. After that it firms up! I didn't bench bleed the cylinder, but did squirt brake fluid into the MC prior to installing it. I figure I must still have some air in the system? Any suggestions?
thanks

In mine, the linkage from the peddle doesn't quite push the master cylinder plunger all the way - leaving just a small space for some air. I disconnected the linkage, and pushed it in by hand. Solved my problem. Good luck!

Have you checked the adjustment on the rear brakes? Any chance there is a stuck piston on the front?

Yeh I agree. It is often the rear adjustment. That little bolt and that wooooing of the adjuster a quarter turn before you break is a pain. Do they come right up after the first pump and stay up for a while, or is the pedal just spongy all the time? If it is not too bad, I suggest driving some and then do some gravity bleeding. Some people have good results with pressure bleeders, but I have not yet.

A quick check to see if excessive pedal travel is because rears need adjustment: while under way (briefly) apply the handbrake a notch or two and see if the pedal is suddenly quite firm.

That slight use of the handbrake will take up any extra movement due to the shoes being too far from the drums.
