...or more precisely 8° BTDC.

The MGB lives. Started 'er up only to find that the Weber has sat too long. "Goo" would be the technical term I'd pick /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

...Had to "fiddle" the points with some emery cloth (the usual "fuzzy stuff" had grown on 'em). Static timed it, then once it was running I put the timing light on it. Ran with a LOVELY sound. I looked at the dizzy cap after the successful run-up to temperature and shut-down... hmmm... "Well, lookie there... I seem to have set the dizzy drive dog at 180° out of whack! Number one wire is at 7 O'clock!"

Then I remembered: Back-when in '92 I slapped this motor together and stuffed the drive gear in without payin' attention. It was just as easy to juggle the wires around as to pull the gear out and reposition it. "Oh, I'll get to changing it when I do the next tune-up."

Been around 15 years and well over 80K miles. Mebbe tomorrow or Saturday I'll pull the dizzy and collar to reposition it...

Mehheh. Yeah, RIGHT! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Been there, done that! Someday after we're gone, somebody will be callling us a DPO!

And, Doc, I just pulled a dizzy on a '67 I'm dismanteling..."goo" down inside had gotten so thick I had to use a hammer to loosen it...darned good dizzy too; heck, there's not even any lip in the pistons & the valves look new....but she just sat & sat & sat....

heh... that's me: The DPO from Hades. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

What a shame. 18GB engines have a very special place in my (black) heart. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

I'm trying to decide whether or not to keep the short block - & its a GH with a generator so that puzzles me a bit.

huh? Someone was a bit "creative" with it then.

Yep, gonna slide under it tomorrow to see which trans it has...then I'll decide whether to pull it for future use or crush it with the old body.

Yo Doc!!

Ed: I've a LONGER and more "elegant" (read: "older") tool to do the task.

My first "experience" with this Oddesy was back in 1969. No "Spring Chicken" at this... and I may *volintarily* become the DPO... just for the sake of the next owner's edification! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

...after all: how many folks own a 1/4-28x4" bolt?!?!

BWUHAAHAAHAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

It's 5/16-24 ... and you own 4 of them; they're holding your air cleaners on /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif

Err, or they were before someone decided that Italian induction was better than British /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif
