A pal has wound up with a '64 Moke. We're already "plotting" to find another engine/gearbox for transplanting "down the road." Will the li'l beast have room enough for an 1100 or 1275? Just daydreamin' at this point, thought I'd toss that out and see if anyone has had a go at it.

welll.... near enuff. Kinda nearer "Boca Daydreamin'" in this instance: about 150 miles north of Havana. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hey Doc,
I've got a friend in Port Orange with one. I posted a pic of it a couple months back. Would you like to get in touch with him?
Rick

The Moke in question is currently in Maine (near Coldplugs' digs). It'll be back here in Florida in a few months, so mebbe then we'll work that in. Thanks! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I've got some dirt roads he can try it out on if he wants.

I can't imagine why a 1275 wouldn't fit - all the 'A' blocks are pretty much the same size, aren't they? Might need some mix & match for plumbing.

(Also - he can leave it here for the winter. I'll watch it carefully for him. Does it have snowplow mounts?)

mehheh.

His S.O. has become so enamoured of it she wants to thrash it about down here... kinda a golf cart on steroids. Or testosterone, so-to-speak... but if need be I'm SURE there'd be a way to rig up mounts for a snow plough. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

In years past when I'd converse with him in December or January the first thing I'd ask would be: "So, how's it there above the TREE LINE?!?" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

My friend Chris owns ~THIS MOKE~.
He puts it inside his race-car transporter (with his vintage formula cars) and uses it as a pit-buggy at vintage races. It's fully licensed, so his wife can drive it into town if they are in a place where she wants to explore.

The 1275 is a drop-in to an older Moke, but newer transmissions use CV joints on the inner axle ends. Older Minis (and the Moke in question) uses Hooke joints on the inner axles ends, so you may have to swap axles if you use a newer trans.
The 1275 will fit the 850 trans if needed.

If, by chance, you get a newer "Austin America" engine and trans (this is the US version of Austin 1300), you may have to swap the final drive gears, since these cars are geared for 12" tires instead of 10". (or leave it as is and do wicked burnouts but have a top speed of 50 MPH).

Mokes seem to rust even more than regular Minis...the side box-frames are often filled with rust.

By the way, I rode in a 1275 Innocenti Mini tonight (a pal stopped by with it).

Kinda -assumed- the running gear was "generic" to both. Forgot about the Hooke joints tho. This'n may wind up as a pit vehicle as well. PCA'er as a Driving Instructor, so it'd be near-perfect in that app. His SWMBO would be able to use it for "foraging expeditions" too.

Lucky bastage! I hope it was FUN!! Last hot Mini I had access to is a world away now. Herself got "wrung out" in it and stepped out to proclaim: "I WANT ONE!!" She had to "settle" for a MkI Lotus Cortina and later this MGB. S'okay tho: I've heard no complaints. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Did a swap yrs ago, put a 1098 in and also the shifter extension in for the stubby g/shift, used flange to flange (like driveshaft joints instead of the u bolt/rubber uni's,) had 12" wheels, then sold it, never got around to putting in the 1800cc and 13/14" wheels on, was a hot bathtub!, had a calif after that from new

I have a 65 Moke - 850 and all, and it's a lot of fun!!!!!!!!!!!

And, a 1275 is a simple swap, match up the yokes on the drive shaft, of course, but don't put a 1275 on an 850 gearbox or you are asking for some trouble.
