New tires have been on the B for 2 hours. Three of the 4 aren't holding air, down to 18 pounds. GRRRRR. Of course, they insisted we didn't need the tubes. Guess where dahubby is headed? Yup, back to Dobb.

Well JB, You might ring DA-Hubby up at Dobbs and tell him to get the rim bands too if you are running Wire wheels.---Keoke /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yesnod.gif

Yes I have wires. Do I already have rim bands? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Well that's what I thought too Steve. But what do I know, I'm just a stoopeed woomun. I called Dobbs and left a message to have dahubby call when he gets there, because I don't know (hehe) if I have rim bands or not. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazyeyes.gif

If they don't have rim bands, you can get away with duct tape. Not recommended for long term, but it does the job.
Also, have them make sure any labels inside the tires are removed. They can chafe the tubes and cause flats.

Thanks. Joe Bozo at Dobbs hasn't had him call home yet so I'm calling back.

Called. Talked to Mr. Bozo myself. Explained he had to put the tubes in (doesn't it suck to have to do a job twice?) and to remove any labels on the insides of the tires. Explained IF a third trip was necessary today (this is cutting into my waxing time) I would bring the B over myself and that wouldn't be a good thing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

Bwahahahahahahaha. Okay Paul. Now how many thought what you thought? Don't answer that. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Okay. I'm on MY way to Dobbs. Dahubby just got home, one tire has a shake in it. If I don't come back, send bail money.

Back. Seems the kid put 3oz. on the wrong side of the tire.

Fixed.

AND...after a bit of persuasion, they credited my card $50. For the inconvenience, I'm sure. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Howdy Jaybird

One other thing you might need to do, Do you run regular or lowish profile tyres?

If the latter you may need smaller inner tubes. When I completed the restoration of my CGT I had new tyres fitted all round and within a year I had had a flat in all 4 tyres, the first within a month of getting the car on the road.

It turns out that 15" inner tubes (MGCs have 15" wheels not 14" like MGBs)are too big to fit modern 15" tyres, the result when fitted? a crimp in the inner tube which eventually becomes a weak spot and fails. Might need to use smaller inner tube for the B's as well.

If you can't ger rim straps then an old inner tube can work.

Like the others I'm amazed that any of your tyres held air at all without tubes, the inner ends of teh spokes are designed to flex in their holes so there is no way they can be air tight.

best regards

Tom

Thanks. I have a mental list of things I'm going to oversee tonight at Dobbs.
