Smogging thoughts...

I live in CA where any car '75 and newer has to go through smogging.
My little '77 Midget has most of the EGR things etc corroded to the point where I would be suprised it worked even 3 smog checks ago. As for now my EGR intake in the manifold is litterally corked up (yes by a wine cork) to keep the vacuum.

I am wondering what to do, all from putting together something fake that can pass the "visual inspection" to an engine change. Some of the parts I can not find anywhere and as far as I know the smog stuff from 77 does not give better emissions as they are measured today.

Please help out you wise men of knowledge. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I know that some of that stuff is not available any more. Loads of it was ripped off in states like mine that did not have pollution tests for years. You might want to look for a Little British car club there in CA, I'm sure they would have more info on what to do.

Give https://www.usedbritishcarparts.com/ a check out - he has almost anything you might need, and can get you those parts cheap - he's in North San Diego county.
I just rebuit my 79, and am about 2 weeks away from the *** smog test!

I'm an 80 1500 Spitfire owner and will be following this topic. I currently live in Kansas, (no smog testing, and all the smog equipment has been removed from my 1500). But, I am moving to San Diego and will need to re-smog my engine. The EGR valves are no longer available. However, I spoke with the guys in Vista calif, (north San Diego County), and they can, or know who can rebuild the EGR for $250,(the diaphram is shot on my orginal). By chance I found a new, still in the box EGR valve on Ebay. I thought about selling her and buying an older version that didn't require smogging, but I just like the car too much. Also thought about installing an older version engine. But they go by the title year, not the engine year. Just another thought. I currently live very close to Victoria British and they have EGR valves for the TR-8, which had 2 EGR vavles. They are identicle to my Spitfire EGR valve, with the exception of the vacuum diaphram, which is a bit smaller in diameter. I figure my engine is about half of the TR-8 V-8, so it may work, or at least perform to pass the smog test.

Maybe you guys need to find some good smog gear and pass it around as a set for folks to pass emission testing. If a big enough deposit was required it would return promptly.

Fight stupidetity with intelagence.

This on a Yahoo board today

If anyone is looking for 'Concours' originality. ..
I have an original Lucas Air pump and filter that works (from a 1275).
It needs cleaning but it's not frozen and it's always been indoors.
Free if you'll pay for the shipping..
