TR6 Small pigtail wire

There is a small wire about 6" long with an insulated tip attached to the positive battery cable. Any idea what this is (was) for?
 
I suspect your car has an aftermarket, generic, positive cable from the local parts store. Those often come with an additional wire for accessories or something on American cars.
