Congratulations Michael Oritt on your podium 2nd place finish. I just recieve my Clasissic Motorsports Issue Sept, 2011 which has a great picture of you and the other top 2 competitors on page 30. My only question is, what happened to Nials after laying down the blistering 1:29.885 hot lap that was quickest lap of the race?

I know, I know the tires let go, the brakes started to fade, yada, yada, yada.......

Nice work in your LBC's guys.

You know Dougie, I think that time was a fluke in the timing equipment.

But the weird thing is, my on-board Q-Starz GPS (which is independent from the timing system) gave me almost the exact same number for one lap in that race.

Maybe the stars were aligned in my favour or something.....

I'd love to take credit for it, but if you look at all my other times, it seems way off-kilter.

Nial

Yep, that would be a quick lap, Fred is his (now my) MGB clicked off a 1:29.1, which was his best lap at SP ever. You can see the video, I'm terible at links, go to youtube, search Jefferson 500, look for "enduro highlights" by "blackmg", it's a great video.

Nial, What was the deal with the two groupinsg of small bore at the Jefferson 500, I never fiquired that one out, there were Spridgets with 1275 in the gorup with us and the MGBs and such, then there was 1275 Spridgets and 948 Spridgets in the other group, along with bigger engine cars like Michael's Elva with you all. These vintage groupings sometimes leave me scratching my head. I hope in the future to come race the MGB at SP, I got to drive a BMW around the place, and it looks like a fun track.

Hap:

I think it was arranged by previous, recorded lap times.

And then I think there was some "negotiation", especially from some guys who were slow in the faster group.

There was a red 1275 Sprite in the faster group that was a student.....he definitely should have been with us in the slower group but they didn't move him because he didn't know to complain.

It's not a perfect system: most slower guys will speak up.
But if a guy is running away from the pack, he usually doesn't volunteer to move up to a faster class.

Since we're not even racing for plastic bowling trophies, I don't care which group I end up in......there guys in both groups that I can dice with.
I had my best races last week with a 948 Bugeye, a Formula Vee and a 1600 MGA.
In the past, I've had several excellent races with Pete McManus's Ardent Aligator which is a pre-war Riley with a flathead Ford V-8 (and built by the Collier brothers).

Nial, there were two cars with #909 in that race,. The other car was the orange Beach sports racer. He left the race early.

Larry

Ah yes, you are correct Larry.....there was another 909 in that race.

That sports racer was #777 last year, but he changed his number to 909 this year.
(OK, slightly annoying since I've been running "909" for the last 4 years, but maybe he's a Beatles fan too  )

~Here's that race~
