Slightly OT - how long NOS brake cylinders good?

I bought some various bits in a parts buy and two NOS rear MGB brake cylinders came with it. I don't need them, but didn't want to sell them if they aren't going to be good to use. They are still wrapped in the wax paper packing and have never been used etc...

What do you think?

Re: Slightly OT - how long NOS brake clyinders good?

I replaced both the rear brake cylinders, pistons and the seals which came in two yellow and blue boxes as full replacement kits in 1990 on my 1958 TR3A. They still operate like new after 19 years and 101,000 miles. I would think that un on-opened cylinder and piston should work like a new one. I can't think of why old seals that have never been used would deteriorate while sitting on a shelf. If you sell them, maybe you should suggest to the buyer that he buy new rubber seals - just in case.

Thanks Don - just waned to make sure I wasn't doing anyone a disservice.

Tom,

They will probably last a lot longer than the stuff you buy today.

Don't those fit a Triumph as well?

Re: Slightly OT - how long NOS brake clyinders good?

LOL Paul - probably true.

Nothing TR related else came up in the Moss cross reference...

ISTR that the MGB used Lockheed brakes, so probably not (unless they fit a Triumph 2000 or some other Triumph that DID happen to use Lockheed instead of the Girling that most TRs and Herald-based cars used.
