Hello HealeyPassion, the skid plate loks interesting.

I see you also installed a crossover pipe in the exhaust. Did you notice any difference?

When I put mine in it went at the end of the flexible section. I did so many other changes to the exhaust on my BN7 that I couldn't tell what the difference was.

A: I can't say that I did. The main reason I put mine in was to provide a single pickup point for an O2 sensor that would read the average of both exhaust manifolds. I also put O2 sensors in the 2 down pipes to validate that the H pipe was getting a good reading. It does, so I'm only using the sensor in the H pipe for the reading being fed to the ECU. This is for my EFI.

For information, the works cars had rubber between the sump guard and the pan to prevent potential piercing from trapped stones.
 
wouldn't rubber between the pan and skid plate act as insulation? seems at odds with all those fancy cast aluminum sumps with cooling fins!? but I'm no thermal engineer...
 
Hi Steve,

I'm planning to add a "belly pan" to the bottom of my Healey. It will look similar to your skid plate, but will extend from the front cross-member to at least the rear axle tunnel.

If possible, I may try to add a shallow "salad bowl" under the rear end and run the pan all the way to the rear cross-member.

I'd like to extend the belly pan out past the frame rails to the rocker panels (under the doors), but my dual mufflers are under seat floors and I'm not sure that with my limited metal working tools, I can make a pan with "blisters" to clear the muffs.

Mine will not be for oil sump protection as my oil pan is 2"-3" above the frame rails, but to help the smooth the airflow under the car and get the hot air from my Monster Radiator out from under the car as efficiently as possible.

Hello Cottontop, you wouldn't need such a Monster Radiator in there if you didn't have such a Monster Motor.

I'm sure it reduces cooling via the sump, but the works cars certainly had oil coolers. Fitting a sump guard does imply travelling quickly over rough roads. Given the choice of no oil or hot oil I know which I'd go for.

Hi Peter,

Believe it or not, I don't know yet if that Monster radiator works or not... I'm still workin' on it. S'only been 7 months now....

One of the problems with being retired is that most of the deadlines go away. Then everything gets back-burnered.

My latest stalling tactic is installing a distributorLESS igniton and the 4 SU carbs.

How're you doin'?

Hello Tim, doing alright thank you, waiting to get my speedo back from being re-calibrated before driving the car.

Went out a few months ago for it's first trip and had to come back on a flatbed, first time for everything.

It developed a missfire firstly after about 11/2 hours on the road and after a stop to check it out it fired up and went like there was no tomorrow for a few miles till it started to missfire again. Eventually I decided I'd had enough and headed back home and gave up altogether when it was getting dangerous to be on the freeway like that.

I determined it was the coil and having replaced that took the speedo out and am now waiting.

I'm also interested in DIS also but I want to mine one thing at a time. That is I'll do the ignition side first then do the fuel side later. If possible sort one problem out at a time I say. Whish DIS system are you looking at? I'm thinking of using the Ford EDIS and have just about all the parts.

Steve, sorry to hijack the thread. I finally looked at your website and am impressed with what you have done. One question, the side vents you bought from Kilmartins do you need to get rid of them or have you done so already?.
