Size of hole in dash for dimmer ?

Folks, I'm stuck at work, so I can't get to my garage. Can someone help me out? How big is the hole in the dash for the dimmer rheostat? It's a '71, but they're probably all the same size. I've joined the crowd of rheostat bypassers and now I'm looking for creative ways to plug the opening (starter button, indicator lamp, etc.) but don't know the size of the hole to be filled. Thanks.

Andy- I found a nice ign. switch that fits pefectly in that spot.

I cut the hole out a bit larger to match the size of the other gauge holes and put a clock in that spot.

Thanks for the responses. Here's another question - I know it's probably not a recommended modification, but I found a starter button that should fit OK. Which wires from the ignition switch should be connected to it? I have Dan's wiring diagram and would guess that starting has to do with connecting the brown-with-white and red-with-white wires, but this seems a little too tricky and important to just do the trial-and-error technique.

BTW, Dan, if you read this, I've used your advice for converting to a voltmeter and for hooking up an non-original hazard switch, and they both work perfectly. Thanks for all your help.

Not tricky at all, Andy. If you have Dan's wiring diagram (I highly recommend you get his book...direct or thru Moss), just sit down and using simple logic, you can figure it out. I know nothing about electricity and have found that using Dan's book and diagrams I have climbed mountains....

Bill, the only logic and knowledge I have is simple! I can find all of the components on the wiring diagram and follow the leads, but this just seems to be more complex and dangerous than installing a hazard light switch or adding a ground to the tail lights. I'll probably take a stab at it this weekend anyway and hope for the best.
