Sinkhole at the Corvette museum

Internet is having some problems this morning, so I can't read the article. But ... we keep pumping stuff out of the soil, and eventually ...

That's what I was thinking.

Chuck 'em all in the hole for all I care. All except the '63 split window. And the '53's. And a couple of 60's big blocks...But if Mother Earth wants to eat the rest, we're good.

There is a '53 on display that is owned by a local Champaign, IL enthusiast, Ray Quinlan. (Actually, his estate, now.)

It's a shame that happened, but even though they probably had insurance and can be restored, the cars will never be the same. I do feel sorry for the two fellas who had their cars there on loan, especially knowing they would be well cared for. PJ
 
Paul - I have a sneaking suspicion there was no museum insurance on the loaned vehicles. And I wonder if any insurance covers that kind of "ground subsidence".

Just thought you might be interested in the little mini helo video that was used to survey the damage at the Corvette Mueseum.

I'm pretty sure that 6 of the cars were owned by the museum and the other 2 cars were owned by Chevrolet. each of the cars represented unique features or model. But just an interesting note. They said that the one 1983 model year car that was there was spared. That would represent a very rare item that is not replaceable since there were no 1983 Model year Corvettes produced for sale. At that time 6 cars rolled off the assembly line before Chevrolet shut the line down. None were sold to the public as registerable cars.
 
We visited the museum last October. Here is that '83 (and some info on it) It's spot on the display floor is very close to the sinkhole.
