Single malt?

A good friend really likes single malt whisky.

Which would you recommend I get her for her 70th birthday?

I'm thinking a Macallan, but $10K/bottle is a bit rich. A *really big* bit rich.

What say ye all?

Thanks.

A good friend of mine always liked Glenmorangie or Glenfiddich

I will second Lagavulin 16, a finer dram won't be found. I will add a caveat, Islays are very peaty, especially Laphroaig, so only get her an Islay if she likes a heavier whisky. Otherwise a Glen Livet is an excellent example of a Speyside or Glenmorangie would be a good choice for a highland. I personally think Macallan is overrated and over priced. Even their 12 year olds now cost as much of more than many 16 year olds from other companies. However, Macallan is a good example of a highland.
