I'm getting ready to put my American Racing Silverstones on my 250, and I'm curious whether I need to use innertubes. I'm running Coker 185R15 redlines on stock rims without tubes currently. Advice from the collective is most welcome.
The old rims did not have the ridge needed for tubeless tires. While tubeless tires will seal, they are not as safe as they would be with tubes in them. If they were mine, I would put a tube in.
No problem with tubeless, but unless you coat the inside surface of your wheels you will lose air. So you have two choices, (1) mount your tubeless tires and keep an eye on your tires and top off each week or (2) spray the inside with and epoxy paint (almost anything will do)and you should be OK.
Here a shot of my BFG redlines on my 35 year old SS's.
Bill: just a quick clarification. The BFG's are tubeless and I have been running on them since July 2007. I painted the inside of the SS's with epoxy paint that I got at Home Depot. I have not had a problem with this set up.
