"Ol' Pink Wire" Alfa is playin' up again. Third alternator in two years. Bosch with an integral regulator. Can't get a replacement for the stoopid regulator/brush pack for less than $60... and the rebuilt alternator is $85. Parts guy just called to tell me the warehouse "can't FIND" the one alternator they're showing as 'on the shelf' inventory so now I have to wait 'til Thursday to swap it. GGGRRRrrrr... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

I may chuck the whole "modern" buncha poop an' mount a generator and a stand-alone regulator on the beastly thing! Brushes are CHEAP! And I've got two known good units inna shed along with several regulators. Only had ONE of those fail in thirty years!

My new slogan may become: "Retrofit Yestertech!" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

Yeah, thanks fellas.

I'm drownin' my sorrows in "Peanut Brittle & Vanilla" ice cream right now. May eat th' entire half-gallon. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

Add some Doc Pepper and make a proper float. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

All we have here is diet Coke. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/pukeface.gif

That was just cruel, Jeff. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

If I'd had any I may have tried that... Now waiting for Horsemits to arrive home from "work" with supplies. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Day Two;

Have counted all the drywall screws inna shed. Twice. 149@2". 204@1". YES I'm SURE! (2 hours)

Rebooted a windows box three times, got bored and formatted it. Now have an XP Pro box for a print server. All the LAN'd machines print to it. CUPS rocks. (4 hours)

~ALMOST~ broke out th' mower (2 hour deliberation... not THAT bored yet.)

Had a visit from Rick and his bud. Best part of the day! Hovel tour. (2 hours)

Watched "news" (3 minutes)

Pacin' th' cage....

hehehehehe....& today I solved the electrical problems on 2 of my MGB GT's!!

I changed the HVAC blower fuse on my Porsche today!

So after a day of running to client's places and getting me mits on the 'rebuilt' alternator yesterday: Get back, let the beast cool enuff to fuss the old one out/new one in... the 'new' one ($125!) pegs the VOM past 16V!!! "regulator" my fat Aunt Beatrice!! Bad bit is, I joked about the QC of 'rebuilds' as I was doin' th' deed. Mebbe serves me right.

....the adventure continues. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wall.gif

Today I commandeer 'Das Boot': Diesela an' me are gonna have some Quality Time together hunting up a proper regulator...

You sure you're not working on a FIAT, Doc?

Bite yer tongue, MISTER Barnhill. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

hmmm.... izzat what I'm hearin'?

....wow.....

FINALLY!! Stoopid thing had to have come via OX CART!! This "rebuilt" puts out a steady 13.5V. I'm gonna chance one of those fancy-schmancy "adjustable" regulators Int'l Auto Parts sells and see if they're any better. I paid the core charge to KEEP the first unit, too. Glad of it. I'll have a spare for when this "Quality Rebuild" thingus goes Tango Uniform on me. It came with a smaller pulley so had to juggle THAT too. And they left out the woodruff key.
"Quality Cobblers" IMO! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif
